END-OF-YEAR BOOK DRIVE FOR OLD TOWN SCHOOL(a.k.a. F.O.R.E. Book Drive) WHAT’S THE HISTORY? For over 15 years, St. Anne’s has joined with neighboring churches to make certain every student at Old Town School receives the cherished gift of a new book at the end of the school year. WHY OLD TOWN? 99% of the students at Old Town qualify for free breakfast and lunch. For many of the students, book ownership can be rare and Summer Slide in reading skills is real. WHAT’S ST. ANNE’S PART? A new book for each 5th grade student (93 students, including 19 students in a bilingual class who are bi-literate in English and Spanish) WHAT BOOKS? Culturally responsive books, i.e., books with characters who look like the Old Town student population which is mostly African American and Latino/a. For your convenience, below is a link with a list divided into books with African American characters, books with Latina/o characters, and books in Spanish (for the bilingual students).
WHAT’S ON THE LINK? The link lists books on an Amazon Wish List: http://bit.ly/OldTownBooks If you purchase with this method, the books will be sent directly to the church. Or you can look at the Wish List and purchase books locally. Hard copies of the book list are available on the Outreach table in the Parish Hall. Checks also are welcome (made out to St. Anne’s with OT Book Drive in the memo line) and books will be purchased for you. WHAT’S THE DUE DATE? Sunday, May 26, 2019 THE OUTREACH COMMITTEE THANKS YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT OF THIS IMPORTANT MINISTRY!.
Opportunities Here and Around Town from the Outreach Committee
