How are you currently active at St. Anne’s?
In addition to attending services regularly, I am a lay reader and a lay eucharistic minister. I have also enjoyed participating in many community outreach activities.
What skills, gifts, knowledge, and abilities do you have to offer through your service on the Vestry?
I have the gift of experience having served on the vestry of a small and a medium sized church on several occasions and having had two terms as junior warden and one as senior warden. In the process, I have gained a lot of knowledge about how Episcopal churches function. In addition, as a teacher of English, I am able to communicate well in speech and in writing. Finally, after many years of professional and personal life, I have become a good listener and, I think, a good judge of people.

How are you currently active at St. Anne’s? |
I officially joined St. Anne’s in March 2019, but my family has been connected to St Anne’s most of my life. A few months after actively attending worship services, I joined the Outreach and Pastoral Care committees. Currently I serve as a co-chair for both committees. I have a passion for serving my community and building relationships with my church family. In addition to Outreach and Pastoral Care, I also serve on the Bread and Blessings committee, t each Sunday School (which I am so looking forward to returning to this year.), Christian Formation, and Youth Group parent/volunteer. |
What skills, gifts, knowledge, and abilities do you have to offer through your service on the Vestry? |
I am what many would call a “cradle episcopalian.” I grew up attending St Stephen’s Episcopal Church here in Winston-Salem. But being an episcopalian is Not what I am all about. I have a passion for serving my community. I enjoying being around children. Their vision for the future inspires me to do more to ensure their dreams become reality. My greatest passion, my best love, my greatest achievement is my daughter, Alexandria. She inspires me in more ways than I could ever imagine. As a Single Mom I wear many hats, I am an educator, mentor, multitasker, problem solver, crisis intervention, mediator, high five, smiles, big hugs, strong Black woman. Throughout my roles in life I always play the role of Devil’s Advocate. The ability to flip, twist and turn every situation to find a solution that’s Best for the problem at hand. I believe in doing what is Right to serve the greater good. Sure not everybody likes/appreciates that type of sentiment, but it’s what’s required to resolve the situation in a peaceable and understanding manner. It’s okay to disagree, just agree to come to the table and discuss the manner reasonably. As a member of the Vestry I will strive to respect everyone’s point of view, be an advocate for those who feel they do not have a seat at the table. Champion those causes that are near and dear to my heart. Educate, empower, and engage with everyone at the table to reach a desirable outcome. I pray that everything I say/do is pleasing in the eyes of the Lord. |

How are you currently active at St. Anne’s? |
We are new members of St. Anne’s, since Lent 2022. I regularly attended the Newcomers Classes to learn more about St. Anne’s and freshen my memory on all the ways of the Episcopal Church. I am currently an usher, greeter, and reader for the 11am service and have signed up as a Sunday School volunteer as well. |
What skills, gifts, knowledge, and abilities do you have to offer through your service on the Vestry? |
I am a well-spoken, people person, who enjoys interacting with new people and those I hold close. Having been raised in the Episcopal church I have attended many services in different parishes and can bring ideas to St. Anne’s from those experiences. I am an educator in our public school system and have young children, therefore am knowledgeable on community issues and needs of families. |

How are you currently active at St. Anne’s? |
I am on the server rooster and also volunteer as a substitute organist when needed. I attend services and fellowship on a regular basis and I pledge financial resources to the parish. |
What skills, gifts, knowledge, and abilities do you have to offer through your service on the Vestry? |
I was an executive with a family business back in the Midwest for many years. The business of a parish is certainly different than a for-profit business but some of the skills learned in business can carry over to vestry work. Over the years I have served on many parish and diocesan committees so I am not new to the intricacies of volunteer church work. I was a volunteer parish organist/musician for over 55 years. I have learned over the years to listen to other people’s points of view and then try to arrive at a consensus as to what the problem is. In my view, not all problems need a solution, and sometimes a problem is created because we have a solution. It is important to be able to prayerfully discern which of the various options we are dealing with and then act in the best interest of the St Anne’s community. |
