The Outreach Committee at St. Anne’s Episcopal Church cordially invites you, your family, and friends to our 5th Annual Freedom School Fundraiser, benefitting the Roddy Roberts Freedom School Guitar Ministry. This is a free event open to the public and featuring local musicians from around the Winston-Salem/Triad area. Join us on Saturday, May 13th, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at St. Anne’s Episcopal Church for an evening of entertainment, engagement, and education.
Our goal is to raise $5,000 towards the wholesale purchase of ¾ size guitars, suitable for instruction and play for rising 4th and 5th-grade students at the Old Town Freedom School site, where our very own Linda Winikoff is the Executive Director. Donations in any amount are greatly appreciated and can be given via check or online to St. Anne’s Episcopal Church W-S, memo line for Roddy Roberts Freedom School Guitar Ministry.
The mission of the Winston-Salem Freedom Schools programs is to boost student motivation, read, generate more positive attitudes toward learning, increase self-esteem, and connect the needs of children and families to the resources of their communities. Rooted in the Mississippi Freedom Summer project of 1964, the CDF Freedom Schools program is a literacy and cultural enrichment program designed to serve children and youth in grades K-12 in communities where quality academic enrichment programming is limited, too expensive, or nonexistent. Moreover, the Roddy Roberts Freedom School Guitar Ministry seeks to expand on that model by providing music education and support to students within the minority community. Music education and instruction are a vital part of the overall education of a young student. It provides skills and nurtures talent well into adulthood. Your contribution opens up a world of possibilities for students who would otherwise go without due to cultural and financial barriers beyond their control. Your financial support is vital to the mission and vision of the Guitar Ministry. In hopes that the students who learn today become the teachers for future generations.
Join us on Saturday, May 13th at 6:00 pm, together, we can make a difference.
